Julia Voss

Julia Voss is a German art historian, art critic, curator and, since 2021, a research associate in the Presidium of the Deutsches Historisches Museum in Berlin. From 2007 to 2017, she was head of the art section of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Julia has been an honorary professor at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg since 2015. Among other awards she received a fellowship at the Institute of Advanced Studies in Berlin in 2016/17 and the Sigmund Freud Prize for Academic Prose by the German Academy for Language and Literature in 2009. She holds a PhD from Humboldt University, Berlin. Her thesis was published in English by Yale University Press as Darwin’s Pictures. Views of Evolutionary Theory, 1837-1874 in 2010.
While on residency in Susch, Julia is working on rewriting art histories by introducing new categories and movements to include women artists not as minor players in fields created by men but rather as genuine creators of their own genres.
